About Me

Hi!  My name is Marie.  I’m a wife, a mother, software engineer, and amateur cook.  I received my BSEE from the University of Colorado and I currently work as a Software Development Lead.  This means that for about 9 hours a day I look at spreadsheets, go to meetings, and “coach” employees.  Then, I go home and do things I really love.

My hubby, we’ll call him Hubs, and I have been married for 6 ½ years.  Like all couples, we have had our ups and downs, but he truly is my best friend.

In May 2012, we happily welcomed a beautiful baby girl.  I started calling her Littles and the name stuck (although she does have a real name in real life). And, she is getting to be not so little anymore.

I love this kid, but she sure does give me a run for my money most days.  Fortunately, Hubs is able to spend his days being the best stay-at-home-dad around.

About this blog:

I created this blog to share my weight loss struggles (and hopefully successes) with the world.

I am not one of those people who got older or had a baby or stopped working out and gained some weight.  Nope…I have been fat my whole life.  Yes, fat…it’s not a dirty word, it’s my reality. But, hopefully not for long!!

My freshman year in high school my stepmother encouraged me to lose weight with the promise of a new wardrobe.  I joined the softball team, lost some weight (I have no idea how much…I didn’t weigh myself back then), and went shopping.  I was ecstatic that I could fit into a size 12.

I gained most of that weight back throughout high school. At 19, I managed to get down to about 170 lbs. But, I was not healthy. I was only eating about one meal a day and the weight loss wasn't sustainable.

From age 19 to about 28, I tried various diet and exercise programs, on and off. I didn't stick to any of them and the end result was a weight of about 250 lbs. Yikes!!

Before my wedding, I started working out with Hubs and lost 30 lbs. I have been able to maintain this loss (and lose a little more)since 2007. But, I have never, ever made it to a healthy goal weight.

I currently weigh 214 pounds.  On my 5’6’’ frame, this does not look good and is not healthy.  I need to do something about it and intend to use this blog to document my progress…it helps to be accountable to someone…even if it is an anonymous Internet reader.

But, life is not all about food (which I LOVE) or weight.  So, you will probably see some posts here about other things in my life…parenting, reading, camping, crafting, couponing, and general adventures.

Thanks for reading.

This blog reflects fitness and eating plans that I have used, and that worked (or didn't work) for me. You should consult a doctor before beginning any diet or exercise plan especially if you have health issues.
